TEAMS: Chicago Bears, Buffalo Bills, San Diego Chargers
Lovie Smith has piqued the Buffalo Bills' interest, but they aren't the only NFL team hoping to speak with the coach recently fired by the Chicago Bears. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the San Diego Chargers would like to meet with Smith about replacing Norv Turner, who was fired Monday along with general manager A.J. Smith. The Chargers on Thursday dispatched a four-man committee to the East Coast in search of their next GM, a team source told NFL.com's Albert Breer. That places the head-coaching quest on hold for now. San Diego hopes to have a new GM in place by the middle of next week, in time to join the coaching search with chairman Dean Spanos, director of college scouting John Spanos, assistant GM Ed McGuire and consultant Ron Wolf.
