San Diego Chargers linebacker Antwan Barnes has been ejected against the Oakland Raiders following an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Officials whistled Barnes for the penalty following a 27-yard run by Louis Murphy in the first quarter Sunday. The 8-yard penalty gave Oakland the ball at San Diego's 7-yard line, leading to a Raiders touchdown. Barnes was leading the Chargers with 11 sacks this season. He took off his helmet and was yelling back at officials on the field following his ejection. It was not immediately clear exactly why Barnes was ejected. Shaun Phillips is expected to see more time at outside linebacker in his place.

Report: Turner on way out of San Diego

Chargers head coach Norv Turner will be fired sometime next week, meaning Sunday's game in Oakland will be his last with the team, the San Diego Union Tribune reported Saturday. Sources familiar with team president Dean Spanos' thinking told the newspaper that Spanos feels he has no choice but to make a change after the team lost six games in a row mid-season. "There...

NFL Black Monday: Fire Norv Turner!

Although Turner has had moderate success in San Diego, after a dissatisfying 2011, the Chargers should realize now that Norv Turner is no longer the man who will win the franchise’s first Super Bowl. The San Diego Chargers front office has made some very questionable decisions over the years. First, they fired, Marty Schottenheimer, a highly successful head coach, after a 14...

Firing Turner probably won’t solve some of Chargers’ biggest problems

Daniel Snyder was looking for “some serious leadership” when he fired Norv Turner. What he has found has been futility.

Mathews inactive for Chargers vs. Raiders

The San Diego Chargers are without leading rusher Ryan Mathews for their season finale against the Oakland Raiders. Mathews is sitting out Sunday's game with a calf injury. He finishes the season with 1,091 yards rushing. The Chargers do have wide receiver Vincent Jackson active. His status was in question because of a groin injury. The Raiders are also with two running backs...

Chargers end Raiders' season, 38-26

While their late-season surge was not enough to get them to the playoffs, the Chargers at least had the satisfaction of ending Oakland's season with a 38-26 win on the road. Fantasy Spin: Philip Rivers was a stud with 310 yards and 3 TDs, one each to Malcom Floyd (7 catches, 129 yards), Antonio Gates (5 catches, 106 yards) and Vincent Jackson (2 catches, 29 yards). Mike Tolbert...

Report: Norv Turner “all but certain” to be fired this week

Chargers coach Norv Turner, as MDS pointed out earlier this morning, still enjoys the support of his players.  But Norv’s players don’t make the hiring and firing decisions, even though their collective performance is likely getting the current guy fired and a new one hired. Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Turner…

It’s Spanos’ decision, and so far we’re not privy to his reasons

The Chargers are not a democracy, but a dictatorship. You don’t have a vote. I don’t have a vote. Philip Rivers doesn’t have a vote. Chuck Norris has a vote, but he chooses to abstain.
