The Chargers parted with Micheal Spurlock on Wednesday morning to make room for newly signed cornerback Chris Carr. Spurlock, acquired this offseason in free agency, offered the team depth and versatility on offense and special teams.
A numbers crunch led to the move as San Diego is carrying two kickers, Nick Novak and Nate Kaeding, while the latter recovers from a groin strain suffered last week. It also needed to add a fourth cornerback with Shareece Wright recovering from a high ankle sprain.
Spurlock said the team told him he could be brought back as early as next week after the Chargers play in New Orleans on Sunday night.
"I'm still talking to the guys," Spurlock said in a phone interview, "letting them know, 'Hey, get another win, 4-1, and I'll be ready to join you all when you get back.' That's the plan. ... I'll be looking forward to watching them and cheering them on." Source: San Diego Union-Tribune
