The San Diego Chargers placed former Pro Bowl safety Bob Sanders on season-ending injured reserve due to a knee injury.
Sanders, who was signed to a one-year contract in the offseason, appeared in the first two games and made six tackles in each.
The 30-year-old Sanders was released by the Indianapolis Colts at the end of last season after spending seven years with the club.
When he was healthy, Sanders was among the league's best players, earning Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2007.
However, he rarely was able to stay on the field, appearing in just nine games due to injuries over the previous three seasons.
A two-time Pro Bowler, Sanders hasn't played a full season since 2007, when he recorded 96 tackles, 3.5 sacks and a pair of interceptions for the Colts.
He suffered a serious biceps injury in 2010 and was limited to one game.
