Running back Ryan Mathews continues to target the Chargers' regular-season opener as he recovers from a broken clavicle. "I'm definitely ahead of schedule," Mathews told the North County Times. "I've always been a fast healer, and that's proving true right now. My range of motion is improving and I'm feeling really good. I've been staying upbeat about an unfortunate situation, and everything I do right now is about getting healthy. Honestly, I can't wait to get back on the field." General manager A.J. Smith signed veteran tailbacks Ronnie Brown and Jackie Battle to one-year deals in the offseason, but no one on the Chargers has rushed for more than 50 yards during the preseason in Mathews' absence.
