The San Diego Chargers have released veteran defensive lineman Alfonso Boone, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Boone (6-3, 320) had no tackles in three games this season for the Chargers. Boone was inactive for Sunday's win over the Arizona Cardinals. A seventh-round pick (253rd overall) out of Central State by the Chicago Bears in 2000, Boone totaled 165 tackles and 15.5 quarterback sacks during a 128-game career with the Bears, Kansas City Chiefs (2007-08) and Chargers, where he started four of 16 games the last two seasons. Boone's release will likely result in second-year defensive end Vaughn Martin or rookie nose tackle Cam Thomas being active for Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders.
