Dwight Freeney is a free agent no longer. NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports the Chargers have agreed to terms with the veteran defensive end/linebacker on a two-year contract. Terms of the pact haven't been announced, but he's glad to find a new home. "I'm excited to start this new chapter with some good people with great potential to do some great things," Freeney told ESPN's Ed Werder. The 33-year-old Freeney, whose long career with the Colts came to an end this offseason, received little interest on the open market, but his services became in demand after the Bolts lost linebacker Melvin Ingram to a torn ACL. Although Freeney isn't as dominant as he once was, he still has enough left in the tank to make a significant contribution, especially in a 4-3 scheme he's comfortable with. Freeney recorded five sacks last season, giving him 107.5 takedowns in his 12-year career.

Dwight Freeney’s father says his son would love to play for the Giants but “they’re broke”

Dwight Freeney’s father Hugh was on SiriusXM NFL Radio and said his son would love to play for the New York Giants, but “they’re broke.” Well the Giants could afford to pay Freeney, but he would have to accept a contract that’s worth the veteran minimum and I don’t think he’s going to do that.
