The San Diego Chargers on Wednesday signed punter Mike Scifres to a five-year, $18 million contract extension, Scout.com reported.
Scifres was in the final year of his contract. He has been with the Chargers since 2003 and never has missed a game despite a hernia in 2009.
Scifres averaged a career-best 46.7 yards per punt last season, third in the NFL. However, his net was a career-low 33.1 yards as he had four punts blocked.
In his career, Scifres has averaged 44.5 yards on 445 punts.
