If the San Diego Chargers are to beat the Oakland Raiders on Sunday, they will need to play Charger football, which includes dominating the time of possession.  San Diego’s offense leads the NFL in time of possession with 32:35 per game.  In their 24-17 loss against Oakland, the Chargers only held the ball for 27:23.  This was Carson Palmer’s second game as a starter with Oakland, so the team took pressure off of him by running the ball 41 times and in the process, won the time of possession battle by more than five minutes.  This is surprising considering the fact that Oakland is 20th in the NFL in time of possession.  The Chargers did not do themselves any favors by throwing the ball 47 times and only running it 15 times.
