New Eagles punter Mat McBriar
The Philadelphia Eagles announced on Tuesday that punter Mat McBriar was signed to a two-year deal, meaning that Chas Henry, in his second year with the team, was out.
You may recall that former Cowboy and two-time Pro Bowler McBriar (6’0, 227) was signed by the Birds just before training camp to give Henry some competition. McBriar was just coming off of foot surgery on his planting foot and wasn’t at full health at Lehigh. He was released when the team made their final roster cuts.
But he has clearly remained on the team’s mind.
The problem with Henry was one of inconsistency. He came out strong against the Browns, averaging 55 yards on six punts. However, his averaged dropped to just 39.2 yards in Week 2, providing little help to his team against a tough Ravens squad and in one instance, shanking a ball that Baltimore was able to convert into a field goal.
