I've been very critical of Norv Turner recently. But the San Diego Chargers head coach really does know what he's doing, right? In a surprising, almost "April Fools Joke" worthy development, the story broken by FOX’s Jay Glazer was that the Chargers are being investigated by the National Football League due to the team getting caught with their hands sticky.Apparently some players were using some form of adhesive, similar to the well-known "Stickum" on their hands to catch passes more easily. Glazer tweeted the following on Sunday afternoon: "NFL Security has already begun investigation as SD equipment man was hiding illegal sticky substance and giving to players. Line judge saw it and had it confiscated and sent to broncos and league. League takes any competitive advantage issue EXTREMELY serious."San Diego issued a very brief, very vanilla press release soon after: "We are aware of the inquiry and we are cooperating fully with the League."Based on the report from Glazer, during last week's game between the Chargers and Broncos, a towel was confiscated by one of the line judges. Officials are saying it was allegedly covered with a "Stickum-like substance". A San Diego equipment managers apparently had been handing it to various players, at various points in the game during timeouts. The plot stickens in San Diego! There’s no telling what sort of punishment that the Chargers will face for this transgression — the fact that they lost the game probably won’t hurt their cause. At the very least, San Diego has to expect to be hit with some sort of fine, though stricter penalties like the loss of draft picks or player suspensions could result from the investigation. The NFL banned Stickum in 1981, though some players admitted to using it after that cutoff date.
