Two weeks into the NFL season, and the Chicago Bears are owning the title of “Comeback Kings,” winning both of their games on late fourth quarter drives. The Bears could easily be 0-2 now, but looking at it that way would turn a blind eye to how well the Bears have played in the first two weeks. Looking at the Bears’ schedule, it’s easy to see they have one of, if not, the toughest slates of games in the league, mainly because no divisional game is a sure win anymore. The defense is proving, yet again, to be a potential game-changer, but the consistency of the offense and composure of Jay Cutler are what have impressed me most so far. The Bears’ offensive line has only given up one sack in two games. Coming from a team that allowed 38 sacks last season, this is nothing short of a miracle. The offensive line seems to have improved significantly, and that has made Cutler a lot more comfortable in the pocket. That is obvious when watching games so far, as he is forcing fewer passes. The Bears’ offense has been very balanced, but Cutler (with 532 yards and five touchdown passes) is well on his way to having the best season of his career. A lot of the offense is working well right now, but my favorite story is the success of tight end Martellus Bennett. Bennett already has three touchdown catches and 125 yards receiving on 10 receptions, including the game-winning catch in Week 2. I was so angry when the Bears traded away Greg Olsen and the years of having an awful tight end that followed, but all is well again, and it’s helping the team’s success. Tight ends can be such an asset to an offense, and Cutler has always had a preference for a receiving tight end, so it’s nice to see the Bears management finally understands that. We still have a long season ahead of us, and with the way the Bears have started and finished their season the past two years, a solid start doesn’t mean anything. However, it’s difficult not to smile at the Bears’ success offensively so far, even though the team has come close to giving me a heart attack the past two weeks.
