Found October 30, 2013 on Football Nation:
This firing of Lovie Smith was demanded by Chicago Bears fans and a surprise to the league after finishing with a 10-6 season in 2012.  Smith had developed a profound defense but could not establish an offense that could carry into the playoffs. But to his credit he led the Bears to NFC division titles and a Super Bowl appearance in 2006.  However, one of his main goals in the beginning was to beat the Green Bay Packers. That has not been the case with new coach, Marc Trestman.  He knew he was going to have to reconstruct an already confused and dysfunctional offense under three different systems; Turner, Martz and Tice. He has never once vowed to beat a certain team. His focus was to get the Bears players to work together as a team of brothers with a passion to make plays.  It was already predicted by so-called sports experts that he would not be able to “fix” Cutler and start the season with a winning record.  His secret was developing a relationship with quarterback Jay Cutler and...

Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers: Three Bold Predictions

Agent's Take: Julius Peppers among 12 names likely to be cap casualties

NFL player contracts are primarily year-to-year propositions because they aren't fully guaranteed like NBA and MLB contracts. Players are released in each off-season due to the salary cap or because their performances don't justify their salaries. Here's a look at twelve guys with 2014 contracts that could be playing for new teams next year. Julius Peppers (DE)-Chicago...

Column: Goodell teaches moms to tackle 'safely'

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell came to town to teach mothers how to tackle safely. I am not making this up. The event, sponsored by the league and the Chicago Bears, was titled ''Football Safety Clinic for Moms.'' The intent, no doubt, was to ease fears about letting their sons play the game. The timing was nothing if not fortuitous. Last month, studies by researchers...

RB Rankings – Week Nine

RB Rankings – Week Nine Eddie Lacy comes in as a top six option this week against a Bears defense that belies its name as a Bears defense. The Bears have been gashed by opposing running backs in recent weeks and they have little to no chance of slowing down Eddie Lacy especially with top linebacker Lance Briggs on the shelf. Start Lacy with confidence and give him a look if you...

Bears-Packers Preview

The Chicago Bears haven't been able to beat the Green Bay Packers with quarterback Jay Cutler or linebacker Lance Briggs on the field in recent years. Considering the way the Packers have played of late, doing so minus both would appear to present an even greater challenge this year. Prepared to play without two of their leaders, the Bears try to end a six-game losing streak...
