Following a highly-criticized year in Cleveland, Peyton Hillis can officially now turn the page as he’s moved on to his next home.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Chiefs signed Hillis to a one-year, $3 million contract on Wednesday.

Ready to start fresh, Hillis took to Twitter for the first time in months, expressing his thoughts on the move (and also changing his background to something more team-appropriate.)

Appreciate all my fans in Cleveland for the support given to me in my time there. Can’t wait to get back on the field and go to work in KC.

— Peyton Hillis (@thepeytonhillis) March 14, 2012

After rushing for 1,177 yards in 2010, earning, amongst other things, the cover of ‘Madden NFL 12′, Hillis followed it up with a dreadful 2011 campaign, which was derailed by injuries, off-field incidents, and contractual differences.

In K.C., where he’ll be reunited with offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, Hillis projects to be the “thunder” to Jamaal Charles‘ “lightning,” and should make for a good insurance policy in case Charles, who’s coming off of a torn ACL, has a setback in his rehab.

It was a no-doubt transaction for the Chiefs, who let fellow backs Thomas Jones, Jackie Battle, and Le’Ron McClain walk in free agency.

Provided he can stay healthy (and happy), Hillis will be a significant upgrade over Jones in short-yardage situations, and a solid security outlet for quarterback Matt Cassel.
