The Kansas City Chiefs introduced Andy Reid as their new coach at a press conference on Monday. Reid, who has more than two decades of experience at the NFL coaching level, is the 13th head coach in Chiefs history. He coached the Philadelphia Eagles for 14 years. "My family and I are very excited to join the Chiefs organization and the Kansas City community," Reid said. "I want to thank the Hunt family for allowing me the opportunity to lead this storied franchise. "The Chiefs have always had a passionate fan base and I'm looking forward to Sundays at Arrowhead Stadium. We've got a lot of work to do to get ready for next season, and we are going to get started immediately." Reid was fired by the Eagles last week following a 4-12 season. He was reportedly close to being named the Arizona Cardinals coach a day after being let go by Philadelphia, but opted for Kansas City instead. "We are thrilled to welcome Andy to the Chiefs family," Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said. "Throughout his career, Andy has established himself as one of the finest coaches in the National Football League. His integrity, knowledge of the game, work ethic and outstanding abilities as a teacher and communicator make him the ideal head coach to lead the Chiefs for many years to come." Reid was 130-93-1 in the regular season as the Eagles coach, including a 10-9 playoff record. He guided the Eagles to nine playoff appearances, six division titles, five NFC championship games and a Super Bowl appearance. He is a three-time NFL Coach of the Year. He has also served on the NFL Competition Committee's Coaches Subcommittee, drawing praise from commissioner Roger Goodell. "I am a huge fan of Coach Reid, Goodell said. "He is a person I have tremendous respect for as a coach and family man. Andy has been very helpful to me as Commissioner. He has tremendous insight into our game, and we are fortunate to have him in the NFL." Prior to Philadelphia, Reid spent seven years as an assistant coach with the Green Bay Packers under Mike Holmgren, which included two Super Bowl appearances (one championship). He started his coaching career at BYU in 1982 after playing there. He also served as a collegiate assistant San Francisco State, Northern Arizona, UTEP and Missouri.
