The Kansas City Chiefs have placed wide receiver Dwayne Bowe on injured reserve before Sunday’s battle with AFC West rival Oakland Raiders after the 6-2, 221-pound wide out reportedly suffered broken rips in last week’s loss against the Cleveland Browns.
Bowe, 28, signed a one-year franchise tender earlier this year and absent a new contract with the team or the second application of the franchise tag, he will become a free agent in March.
To keep him for the 2013 season, the Chiefs would have to offer him a one-year guaranteed deal worth more than $11 million, according to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com.

Through 13 games (12 starts) this season, he hauled in 59 receptions for 801 yards and three touchdowns.
Since getting selected 23rd overall in the 2007 NFL Draft out of LSU, Bowe has amassed a total of 415 catches for 5,728 yards and 39 touchdowns in six seasons with the Chiefs.
