IRVING, Texas -- Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles is battling a quad injury and said he didn't plan on practicing Wednesday.
That could lead some to believe Charles' status for Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys is uncertain.
If Charles has a choice, it sounds like he'll be taking the field.
"I'm excited. I don't want to miss this game for the world because everybody from Texas will be watching this game," Charles said during a Wednesday conference call with media members at Valley Ranch. "I think I need to go out there and just show everybody what kind of Texas player I am."
Charles, a former standout at Port Arthur Memorial High School, said he grew up watching Emmitt Smith and Troy Aikman but was not a fan of the Cowboys because a rival Pop Warner team was named the Cowboys, "so I didn't like them."
Charles went on to play three seasons at the University of Texas, rushing for 3,328 yards and 36 touchdowns from 2005-2007. The Longhorns won a national title and made two other bowl appearances while Charles was on the roster.
"Playing against the Dallas Cowboys, you really try to show out because you know everybody from home is watching," Charles said. "All your family in Dallas, friends in Dallas, you're just trying to go out there and ball out."

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- One of the first things Cowboys owner Jerry Jones did when he awoke Wednesday was to take a good look at the little wooden trophy topped by an odd street sign sitting among the many awards and memorabilia in his Dallas-area home.
It's called the "Preston Road Trophy," dreamed up by his longtime friend and the late Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt, and named...
(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated. With AP Photos.) By DAVE SKRETTA AP Sports Writer Tamba Hali remembers when he joined the Kansas City Chiefs as a rookie, and how Jared Allen was too consumed by a spat with the front office to spend much time helping him.
Hali vowed to pass along his own wisdom someday. Well, Justin Houston showed up a few years ago and has been like sponge ever...
The career of Kansas City Chiefs Defensive End has already been disappointing, but it may have gotten worse on Sunday. After being selected 3rd overall out of LSU in 2009, Jackson has recorded just 5 sacks in four seasons. Going against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday, Jackson was rushing the Quarterback when he was unexpectedly pantsed by Jags center Brad Meester. Can’t...
Sure, it was just the Jaguars, but the Chiefs’ defense looked really impressive. As bad as the Jaguars were last season, they were never shut out offensively. Shutting out any NFL team is impressive. The Chiefs already had a bunch of talented players on that unit, but if Dontari Poe can play like he did week 1 going forward and make good on his 1st round talent, it’ll make them...
IRVING Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is obviously very familiar with the Dallas Cowboys. Reid has more victories coaching against the Cowboys than any other head coach in the history of the game, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
Reid was 17-12 against the Cowboys during his 14 seasons as the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles.
So what's his secret to having...
On Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs will open the Arrowhead portion of their 2013 schedule by facing the NFC East beast known as the Dallas Cowboys. Though they’ve not been a dominant franchise in decades they still proudly wear the armor of their nickname. But why isn’t America’s team in the Heartland?
With a season-opening victory, Andy Reid has solidified the optimism that surrounded his hire as coach of the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this year.
Now they'll try to build on it against a team Reid knows well from his days in the NFC East.
Reid makes his home debut in Kansas City on Sunday as the Chiefs look to match their win total from last season against a Dallas Cowboys...
