The Kansas City Chiefs have started on some important business with Phase III of the offseason program soon to get underway.

According to KPRC2 NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, the Chiefs have officially signed sixth-round draft pick Kamal Hadden to his four-year rookie contract worth $4.158M total value. It includes a $138K signing bonus and his first-year salary cap hit should be over $800K. That's notable because it puts him below the top-51 threshold, so it'll have no impact on the salary cap, at least until the team's 53-man roster cuts.

Hadden becomes the first 2024 Chiefs draft pick to sign his rookie deal

The 211th pick in the 2024 NFL draft, Hadden became the first pick to sign for Kansas City. It's not quite as difficult to sign draft picks as it used to be with most picks having allotted contract amounts based on draft slot. There is a little flexibility in terms of guaranteed money that makes it a bit tougher to sign players selected on Day 2 (Kingsley Suamataia). The Chiefs still have six draft prospects to get under contract. Typically they have all or most of their players signed by mandatory minicamp, which occurs at the end of Phase III of the offseason program.

Hadden fell in the 2024 NFL draft due to a shoulder injury that knocked him out for most of the 2023 college football season. The portion he did play, however, he was one of the best cornerbacks in the NCAA.

During his career at Tennessee, he appeared in 28 games, recording 86 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, six interceptions, and 12 passes defended.

Hadden will have some competition when it comes to making the Chiefs' 53-man roster this fall. He'll compete with former 2023 seventh-round pick Nic Jones, 2023 UDFA CB Ekow Boye-Doe, former Dallas Cowboys second-round pick Kelvin Joseph, and a fellow rookie in 2024 UDFA Miles Battle for a spot in what is shaping up to be a nice cornerback room for Kansas City.
