Most people believe Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly will need a quarterback that can run the ball to run his offense the right way. Kelly claims that isn’t the case. “[There’s] perception vs. reality,” Kelly said, per CSNPhilly.com. “My quarterback last year [at Oregon], Darren Thomas, who is up in the CFL, we played in 14 games, he ran for 200 yards. Everybody is like, ‘Well, you run a running offense.’ Well, look at the statistics, it’s not that. We don’t run designed quarterback runs or we’re snapping the ball to him and then running quarterback power. “Two years ago we played Collin Klein [of Kansas State] in the [Fiesta] Bowl game. The year before, Collin Klein carried the ball 317 times and [Oregon running back] LaMichael James carried it 271. They’re snapping the ball and he’s running. Tim Tebow, they’re snapping the ball, he’s running counter, he’s running power, it’s direct-snap stuff. “I’ve never been that way. We’ve run zone-read concepts, man-read concepts, where it’s a mathematical game. If there is an extra defender in the box, your quarterback can read him and by controlling him and reading him he is basically blocking him.” While I don’t believe Michael Vick will be on the Eagles’ roster next season, I believe there’s a chance Nick Foles could be.  I also believe that the quarterback Kelly is ultimately looking for, isn’t on his roster yet.  I think he’ll draft the prototypical quarterback that he wants in April.   Need NFL Tickets? var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script'); ref = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; _CI.counter = (_CI.counter) ? _CI.counter + 1 : 1; document.write(''); script.type = 'text/javascript'; var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script'); ref = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; _CI.counter = (_CI.counter) ? _CI.counter + 1 : 1; document.write(''); script.type = 'text/javascript'; script.src = 'http://widget.crowdignite.com/widgets/27484?_ci_wid=_CI_widget_'+_CI.counter; script.async = true; ref.parentNode.insertBefore(script, ref); })(); sr_adspace_id = 1000005525107; sr_adspace_width = 300; sr_adspace_height = 250; sr_ad_new_window = true; sr_adspace_type = "graphic";
