Today's installment of Choose Your Quarterback pits Joe Flacco vs. Ryan Tannehill, the Nos. 21 and 22 assets in my rankings of the 32 presumed starting quarterbacks. Here's a week-by-week fantasy breakdown of Tannehill vs. Flacco, just in case you're torn on which quarterback offers better value in Rounds 6 or 7: Week 1Flacco (@ Denver) over Tannehill (@ Cleveland) Week 2Tannehill (@ Indianapolis) over Flacco (vs. Cleveland) Week 3Flacco (vs. Houston) over Tannehill (vs. Atlanta) Week 4Tannehill (@ New Orleans) over Flacco (@ Buffalo) Week 5Tannehill over Flacco (HEAD TO HEAD in Miami) Week 6Flacco (vs. Green Bay) over Tannehill (BYE) Week 7Tannehill (vs. Buffalo) over Flacco (@ Pittsburgh) Week 8Tannehill (@ New England) over Flacco (BYE) Week 9Flacco (@ Cleveland) over Tannehill (vs. Cincinnati) Week 10Tannehill (@ Tampa Bay) over Flacco (vs. Cincinnati) Week 11Tannehill (vs. San Diego) over Flacco (@ Chicago) Week 12Tannehill (vs. Carolina) over Flacco (vs. N.Y. Jets) Week 13Tannehill (@ N.Y. Jets) over Flacco (vs. Pittsburgh) Week 14Flacco (vs. Minnesota) over Tannehill (@ Pittsburgh) Week 15Flacco (@ Tampa Bay) over Tannehill (vs. New England) Week 16Flacco (vs. New England) over Tannehill (@ Buffalo) Week 17Tannehill (vs. N.Y. Jets) over Flacco (@ Cincinnati)Final Tally Tannehill trumps Flacco, 10-7 Breakdown 1. Let's start with an empirical statement: The Dolphins have a considerably easier schedule than the Ravens aided by six games against the AFC East, four against the NFC South and a pair of doable outings with the Colts and Chargers. 2. We're probably splitting hairs with the matchups from Weeks 3, 5, 9, 12 and 15, which might explain the razor-thin differences between Tannehill and Flacco on draft day. 3. Without a doubt, Flacco had an amazing playoffs last year and deserved every bit of the Super Bowl MVP honors. But prior to Baltimore's run to the Lombardi Trophy, Flacco had never accounted for at least three touchdowns in three straight outings. 4. Here's an apples-for-apples comparison of the Ravens and Dolphins playmakers: Mike Wallace gets the slight nod over Torrey Smith (WR1); Brian Hartline (Miami) trumps Jacoby Jones (WR2); Brandon Gibson easily tops David Reed (or Tandon Doss WR3). At tight end, it's probably a dead heat between Dustin Keller (Fins) and Dennis Pitta. The only blowout lies with the tailback tandem of Ray Rice (1,621 total yards, 10 TDs) and Bernard Pierce (579 yards, one TD) lapping the Dolphins' duo of Lamar MillerDaniel Thomas. 5. This one's easily in Joe Cool's favor: For 2013, Flacco has eight common opponents from last year's regular-season slate. Of those games, he averaged 243 yards passing and 1.5 touchdowns. Tannehill, in turn, has just seven carryover opponents from last year's schedule averaging 200 yards passing and 0.6 TDs in 2012. 6. From my perspective, Miami has more weather-friendly games on the docket than Baltimore another unwitting perk for Tannehill. 7. Tannehill may have the easier overall schedule, but Flacco holds the advantage during the playoff period of Weeks 13-16, drawing three starts. That Week 15 opportunity against the Bucs the NFL's worst pass defense last year is a gift from the scheduling gods. And it's in sunny Florida!
