SAN FRANCISCO - NOVEMBER 08: Chris Johnson #28 of the Tennessee Titans celebrates after he scored a touchdown against the San Francisco 49ers at Candlestick Park on November 8, 2009 in San Francisco, California. (Photo by Ezra Shaw/Getty Images)
Following a disappointing 6-10 season, the Tennessee Titans decided to stick with Mike Munchak as their head coach. Other than the second-year coach, who has led the Titans to a 15-17 record in his first two seasons as the man in charge, it appears that no one on the Tennessee coaching staff is safe. Since the offseason began for, the team has fired running backs coach Jim Skipper, special teams coach Alan Lowry, linebackers coach Frank Bush and tight ends coach John Zernhelt. It sounds like all of the house-cleaning has frustrated running back Chris Johnson. All these subtractions and no additions so far. I just don’t get it I want playoff guess I’ll wait in see how free agency and the draft go — Chris Johnson (@ChrisJohnson28) January 16, 2013 Coincidentally (or not), Johnson’s tweet came just a short time after it was reported that Chip Kelly has agreed to become the next head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. Perhaps CJBarely1K is jealous that other teams are beginning exciting new eras while the Titans continue to fire their staff members without making any new hirings. One thing we do know is that he is not alone in his unhappiness. Earlier this week, tight end Jared Cook openly expressed his frustrations with some of the changes. “I didn’t get Frank Bush at all, and I don’t get Coach (Zernhelt) either,” Cook told The Tennessean. “I am very surprised at that, very surprised. I just don’t understand that move. Point blank. Period. Coach Z was a great run-blocking coach and he really explained the run game, and he really broke things down to where you could really understand things better. And he was great in the development of all of us. I just don’t get why you would want to let a guy like that go.” Cook was the team’s most productive pass-catching tight end in 2012, hauling in 44 balls for 523 yards and four touchdowns. However, he did request a trade early in the season after becoming agitated with his role in the offense. Simply put, the Titans were not good last year. When a team finishes a season with only six wins and misses the playoffs, players hope to see improvements. As of now, Johnson, Cook and company have witnessed nothing but slashing.
