Over the past several years, Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe has been one of the most outspoken players in sports when it come to advocating for gay rights. Last year, he wrote an enthusiastic letter to a politician who was against gay marriage. He has also discussed gay players in the NFL on prominent shows such as “The Colbert Report.” Now, Kluwe is wondering if the attention he has brought to the issue of gay players in the NFL could lead to his release. “It’s a shame that in a league with players given multiple second chances after arrests, including felony arrests, that speaking out on human rights has a chance of getting you cut,” he reportedly wrote in a text message to Pro Football Talk. The Vikings used a fifth-round pick on former UCLA punter Jeff Locke over the weekend, so it seems like Kluwe’s days with the team are numbered. He even alluded to the fact that he could be cut when he tweeted this picture after Locke was taken by Minnesota. It should be noted that Kluw...
  • Replacing Chris Kluwe has nothing to do with his being outspoken. he is a lousey punter averaging only 35 yards at best. He should have been gone more then a year ago. he is just setting this up to claim discimination when he does grt cut!
I hope the ZVikings repalce him, they can do beter!
  • Kluwe is a good punter, but his arrogance is showing. Trying to make it all about his opinions is stupid. It is football and they want to bring in new talent. Get a life or join politics if you want to flap your lip.
  • He loves himself too much...
  • kluwe, GO TOUCH YOURSELF, you moron, like i've said all along we are the VIKINGS NOT THE VIQUEENS time for the joy boy to go. hope you saved some of your paychecks. ruin your career for trying to stick up for gays? if gays start coming out in football I will not watch anymore and switch to just golf. at least tiger aint gay!
  • Hey buckOfama, the funny thing is you have been watching gay football just don't know who they are!

As for Kluwe, he's done! The Vikings have drafted a better punter in Locke (he can also kick off)... So the gay issue has nothing to do with it.

One last thought, if buckOfama does swith to watching golf one day, he will be watching gay people playing golf.
  • Are you kidding me. Lets watch some football for crying out loud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I am so sick of him. "Hey look at me, I'm Kris Kluwe and here is what I think" And always a very controversial topic because he wants attention. Shut up and punt.

Chris Kluwe tweets reaction to Vikings drafting a punter

All people react differently when faced with awkward situations. Some choose to clam up or lash out, while others do their best to take it in stride. Count Vikings punter Chris Kluwe among the latter group. During Saturday's fifth round of the NFL draft, the Vikings chose Jeff Locke, a -- you guessed it -- punter out of UCLA. Seeing as how teams rarely burn picks on punters...

Chris Kluwe quotes ‘Dodgeball’ after Minnesota Vikings draft Jeff Locke

Chris Kluwe had a humorous response to the Minnesota Vikings seemingly replacing him by drafting punter Jeff Locke. Kluwe really quoted the movie “Dodgeball.” That’s a bold move Cotton. Lets see how it plays. — Chris Kluwe (@ChrisWarcraft) April 27, 2013 The Vikings used their fifth-round pick (No. 155 overall) on Locke, another former UCLA punter. Locke was the first punter...

Vikings: Drafting punter unrelated to Kluwe's activism

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. Chris Kluwe knows the tenuous nature of playing in the NFL, when jobs can be won or lost every week. He's had his job in question previously but has lasted eight years as the Minnesota Vikings' punter. So, when the team unveiled new uniforms on Thursday, Kluwe praised the new look but also questioned in a tweet whether he'll ever get to wear them...

Chris Kluwe Reportedly Blames Social Activism for Vikings’ Drafting of Potential Replacement

Punter Chris Kluwe might be out of a job with the Minnesota Vikings. Only, according to him, it may not be for the reasons you’d think. Kluwe has been noted throughout his career for his social activism. Over the years, gay rights has been his pet topic, appearing on The Colbert Report and joining with former Ravens linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo to file a brief with the Supreme...

Punter Chris Kluwe says he may lose his job over his gay marriage stance

Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe believes his days with the team may be numbered and said his pro gay marriage stance could be the reason he might lose his job. On Sunday, Kluwe said he is starting to sense that rumors surrounding whether or not he will be released from the team will soon become "distractions." "It’s a shame that in a league with players...

Vikings will let Chris Kluwe compete for his job

Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman told the media that punter Chris Kluwe’s off the field opinions haven’t affected his job status even they just drafted a punter. “It has nothing to do with anything Chris Kluwe is off the field,” Spielman told reporters on Saturday, after the team used a fifth-round pick to acquire UCLA punter Jeff Locke.  “When we’re...

Chris Kluwe May Not Make It To Vikings Training Camp

Tom Pelissero of ESPN 1500 Twin Cities doesn’t expect Vikings P Chris Kluwe to be on the team for much long. The Vikings opted to use their fifth-round pick on UCLA punter Jeff Locke which has left Kluwe’s future status with the team in some doubt. Kluwe mentioned that he’s open to competing for the starting job with Locke, but Pelissero believes there’s at least a...

Holler: Stormy days ahead at punter

Chris Kluwe continues to forward his position as an advocate for gay rights with another Internet post even while his job is threatened. The Vikings claim there will be competition for the job, but if last year’s kicker competition is an indication, Kluwe might not make it to training camp.

Chris Kluwe’s Activist Ways Won’t Lead to Punter’s Release But His Poor Stats, Bad Attitude Should

“My best advice to you? Shut up.” You said it, Coach. While Jim Calhoun may have little-to-nothing to do with members of the Minnesota Vikings, I’d be more than happy to introduce the UConn Huskies coach to Chris Kluwe, because no one needs to “shut up” more than Kluwe these days. While I’ll support pretty much any social activist and appreciate Kluwe’s courage to...

Vikings draft UCLA P Jeff Locke in 5th round

The Minnesota Vikings have selected UCLA punter Jeff Locke with the 155th overall selection in the fifth round. That could spell the end of veteran Chris Kluwe's time in Minnesota. Locke was the first punter taken in the draft. Kluwe has gained some notoriety for being outspoken on several political issues, and special teams coordinator Mike Priefer appeared to tire of the...

Vikings cut punter signed in the offseason

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. When the Minnesota Vikings drafted UCLA punter Jeff Locke in the fifth round of Saturday's NFL draft, many people expected Minnesota to cut one of its other punters. The first cut wasn't the expected name. The Vikings released T.J. Conley on Monday, one of three punters on the roster along with veteran Chris Kluwe after the team drafted Locke. Conley...

Locke ready to challenge for punting job

Vikings fifth-round pick Jeff Locke brings some unique qualities to the position and has met the incumbent, Chris Kluwe.

Vikings: Off-field stances didn’t affect pick

The Vikings maintain that Chris Kluwe’s off-the-field views had nothing to do with the drafting of punter Jeff Locke. Plus, GM Rick Spielman talked about his Day 3 picks.

4-29-2013: Jason Collins Comes Out as the First Gay Athlete in Team Sports with Chris Kluwe and Cyd Zeigler & a Little More

Tonight I am going to let the show speak for itself. History was made as the the last domino toppled when NBA veteran Jason Collins wrote, “I’m a 34-year-old NBA center. I’m black. And I’m gay.” in the May 6, 2013 issue of Sports Illustrated. I am one of the few broadcasters on radio or television that has dedicated shows to the topic of homosexuality in sports. I started...
