Found January 19, 2013 on Football Nation:
The Cincinnati Bengals are one of those teams that seem to be on the cusp of greatness. Many teams have come to this point and then fell apart.Bengals fans are hoping the team stays on the course that has brought them to this precipice and pushes it over the top.We know they have a great core group of players and that youth is on their side. We know they have done a good job managing  salary cap numbers over the past few years. Many of their rising stars are still under contract. When everything is moving the right direction, its hard to embrace change. For that reason, there was a collective sigh of relief from Cincinnati Bengals fans when the last head coaching vacancy was filled recently, without offensive coordinator Jay Gruden, or defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer getting a nod.It seems odd that they were both passed over this year. Gruden, brother of former Tampa Bay head coach, Jon Gruden, was a head coach, himself, in the Arena League and in the United Football League. He has ...

Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer believes that free agent MLB Rey Maualuga will not be back with Bengals in 2013. Reedy admits that the team could always change their mind, but doubts that Maualuga will be back next season. Maualuga, 25, will be an unrestricted free agent, but his four years with the team hasn’t lived up to peoples’ expectations. In fact, Pro Football Focus rated Maualu...

Cincinnati Bengals 2013 Needs

Andy Dalton gets a lot of credit for the Bengals’ recent success. After all, a mere 2nd round pick rookie in 2011, Dalton took over a Bengals team that was 4-12 in 2010 and took them to the playoffs in back-to-back years for the first time since 1981-1982. However, he doesn’t deserve nearly as much credit as this defense. Dalton has led this offense to 22.9 points per game in...

Gruden, Zimmer Sticking Around

Wanted to toss a quick post up for those who might have missed it: Despite there being a whopping eight head coaching vacancies filled around the NFL, none of said jobs went to Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden or defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer. This is absolutely huge because while I think Marvin Lewis is an average head coach at best, this is clearly the...

NFL Rumors: Will Jon Gruden return to the NFL coaching ranks?

In recent years, with coach vacancies in the NFL and college ranks, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden is normally associated with any rumors surrounding the opening. Heading into this offseason for many NFL teams, reports surfaced that the Super Bowl winning head coach would be open to interviewing for a position to return to the sidelines. Eight coaches were fired...

Focus On: Tight Ends

The trend toward receiving tight ends not only makes game sense, it also makes business sense. TEs cost half (or less) of what WRs cost. When a team can get a guy who is a physical mismatch at half the price of play-making WR, what’s not to like about the guy? Jermaine Gresham: signed through 2014 Gresham is a microcosm of the teams’ offense. Inconsistent. Laden with potential...

Eagles Owner Jeffrey Lurie: Jon Gruden made it clear he Won’t Coach this Year

When the Eagles had officially fired Andy Reid, one of the names that continued to surface as possible replacements before Chip Kelly was hired was ESPN Analysts Jon Gruden. However if you ask Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie, Gruden made it clear to him that that was speculation and that he would not return to coaching this year. Per Profootballtalk: “Jon made it clear that he was...

More like the horri-bowl

Back when the 2002 season started, Steve and I discussed the prospect of the Buccaneers playing the Raiders in the Super Bowl. You see, that was the season that Jon Gruden was traded to the Bucs. Both teams were pretty talented going into the season, but if the teams played each other in the Super Bowl, that would just be a little too perfect, right? This led to a comparison of the...
