The Bengals have made the playoffs for the 2nd straight year, but like last year, they did it by winning the games they were supposed to and nothing else (well not technically nothing else this year, but close to it). The Bengals went 9-0 against non-playoff teams last season, but 0-7 against playoff teams, a number that grew to 0-8 when they lost to the Texans in the first round of the playoffs. This year, it was more of the same, as went 9-4 against non-playoff teams and 1-2 against playoff teams (I’m counting the Ravens week 17 in the former rather than the latter because they rested their starters, which doesn’t really count). That 1 win against a playoff team that was actually trying came against the Redskins, a game in which the Redskins lost left tackle Trent Williams for the game with injury. Those were also the same pre-bye Redskins who lost to the Panthers and went 3-6 to start the season. And that’s Andy Dalton’s only legitimate win over a playoff team in his career. In ...

Cincinnati Bengals: Three New Year's Resolutions For 2013

The Cincinnati Bengals finished 2012 strong.  After starting off with a 3-5 record, the Bengals went on a 7-1 run to end the season.  With an improved defense and a tough-at-times offense, this year's squad certainly gives fans hope of a bright future.  Although the team made the playoffs as a wild card, fans would still like to see their team raise the bar a bit. The time...

Bengals better prepared for playoffs in 2013

A year ago this weekend, in the same line on the AFC bracket and in the same made-for-television time slot, the Cincinnati Bengals went to Houston and were promptly eliminated from the playoffs. Take Two can be different. That's not to say it will be, or that the still young and still very much unproven Bengals are ready to win a road playoff game against a talented Texans team...

Bengals lose to Texans 19-13, extend futility

Couldn't stop Arian Foster. Couldn't make that one big play when it was right at their fingertips. And, in an ending so sickeningly familiar, the Bengals couldn't break one of the NFL's longest streaks of playoff futility. Plenty of blame to go around for this one. Andy Dalton overthrew an open A.J. Green in the end zone in the closing minutes, and the Houston Texans...
