Colin Cowherd Reveals Bold Claim About Pittsburgh Steelers’ Roster
Kirby Leei-USA TODAY Sports

Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers are hoping to take a big step forward this season. While they ended up making the playoffs last year, they were never considered a legitimate threat in the AFC. After quite a few roster moves, two new quarterback options, and a great draft, that may have changed a bit.

There are very few teams around the NFL with the kind of talent that the Steelers have put together from top to bottom. Pittsburgh has built their roster well and they are hoping that pays off this season.

In a recent quote from popular sports analyst Colin Cowherd, he revealed a very bold claim about the roster that the Steelers have put together for the upcoming season.

“I gotta see 11-12 wins this year. This is a very good roster. They had another excellent draft…To me, I look at rosters in the NFL. I have the Steelers on a short list of top five.”

What Potential Do The Pittsburgh Steelers Have In 2024?

Honestly, a big part of the answer to this question has to do with which version of Russell Wilson the Steelers get. Will he come in and put up Pro Bowl caliber numbers? Or, will he have another down year.

It seems likely that Wilson will have a strong season once again in 2024. He quietly had a great season for the Denver Broncos last season before they opted to release him and move on.

During the 2023 season with the Broncos, Wilson completed 66.4 percent of his pass attempts for 3,070 yards, 26 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He also scored three touchdowns on the ground and ran for 341 yards.

Looking past the quarterback position, the Steelers will need to see what their wide receivers can do. George Pickens is one of the most talented wideouts in the NFL, but behind him there are a lot of question marks. Van Jefferson, Roman Wilson, Calvin Austin III, and Quez Watkins are not proven options.

Defensively, the Steelers are very solid. Led by T.J. Watt, that unit is always one of the most feared in the NFL. They may not be the best defense in the NFL, but they aren’t going to lose a lot of games for Pittsburgh.

All of that being said, the potential for the 2024 season is high for the Pittsburgh Steelers. They should be a playoff team and if players develop and live up to their potential, they could be a sleeper contender in the AFC.

Mike Tomlin and company have a lot of reasons to be excited about the upcoming campaign.
