Ground will be broken on the site of the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta on Jan. 28, 2013. The groundbreaking was announced Monday in a press conference that included Georgia Governor Nathan Deal, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, Archie Manning, the chairman of the National Football Foundation and John Stephenson (president and CEO) and Steve Robinson (chairman of the board) of Atlanta Hall Management. I know first-hand the passion of Southern football fans, and Atlanta will be the ideal location for the new College Football Hall of Fame said Manning. We are excited to get started on this state-of-the-art attraction. The 94,256 square foot facility, which will be built on what is currently known as the "green lot" of the Georgia World Congress Center and will be part of a tourism districts that also includes the Georgia Dome, Philips Arena, CNN Center, Centennial Olympic Park, the World of Coca-Cola, the Georgia Aquarium and the planned National Center for Civil Rights. The Hall of Fame is slated to open its doors in the fall of 2014. The 66.5 million attraction is expected to draw 500,000 visitors and a year and generate more than 12.2 million in revenue and retail sales and the construction is projected to have an economic impact of 67.3 million. This will be a historic and dramatic addition to Atlantas growing tourism economy, Reed said. The new facility will offer an unmatched experience for college football fans, many of the most avid who reside right here in Atlanta. The HOF will feature both historic and contemporary artifacts, interactive multimedia displays, children's activities and a 3D4K theater. It will also include meeting facilities and events spaces. Atlanta Hall Management has a 30-year partnership with NFF to built and operate the HOF, which is currently located in South Bend, Ind.
