In a draft where the Indianapolis Colts chose eight offensive players and just two defensive, the most intriguing pick to me was the third round selection of Florida International Wide Receiver, T.Y. Hilton.

Check out his highlights in the video above. The first thing that jumps out at you is his absolute blistering speed. At his pro day he ran a 4.36 40-yard dash against the wind and 4.28 40-yard dash with the wind. In other words, if he gets free in space, you’re not catching him.

Hilton spoke to the Miami Herald about his excitement on joining the Colts, and new quarterback, Andrew Luck:

Wooo, teams are going to be in trouble… The Colts said they want to put me in the slot, move me around outside, get me on kickoff and punt returns. They want to utilize me a lot.

They want to utilize him a lot. Good to hear. This kid is electric with the football. Colts Offensive Coordinator, Bruce Arians, will be charged with finding innovative ways to get Hilton the football. When he has it, watch out!

Hilton also told the Miami Herald that, “he is thrilled at the prospect of being mentored by Colts receiver Reggie Wayne.” Also good to hear. Any young receiver coming in to the league can learn a ton from Wayne, who aside from being multi-time pro bowler and Super Bowl champ, is a true professional.

The Colts have not had a threat in the return game in a long, long time. There’s a very good chance that will change in 2012 with Hilton. And with his break-neck speed he should be able to get behind the defense and show that Andrew Luck actually does have the arm strength to throw a bomb down field.
