Two thoughts after watching the Colts' 18-14 victory over San Francisco again. The 49ers really played a smart game. Great defensive effort. That said, credit the Colts for sticking with it when everything wasn't going according to plan. The offense had to grind, the defense got tough in the second half, and despite the injuries the Colts found a way. It's the mark of a solid team, something we've come to expect. Here are the observations: * Opening kickoff is to the 6, which qualifies as below what Pat McAfee expects of himself. * S Antoine Bethea makes a nice play on RB Frank Gore on the wildcat formation direct snap for a gain of only 1. * Jamie Silva drops the punt, but I can see what he told me later, that the sun does play tricks with the ball. Fans asked me about the open roof before and I dismissed it because I had not heard guys say much. But I asked a few after this game and, yes, you were right, blogger nation. The sunlight is a factor on those kicks. ...
