With Butler likely to start against the Patriots, this means either Vontae Davis or Jerraud Powers are warming the bench. When you look at the production, it seems clear that Darius Butler is going to start on Sunday when the Colts (6-3) face the Patriots (6-3) in Foxborough. In fact, interim coach Bruce Arians pretty much confirmed Butler's status as a starter in his Friday chit-chat with the media: "[Butler] gets to be a starter. That's the main thing. You get an opportunity - Wally Pipp - forget about whoever is hurt. That's the whole beauty of the mantra "Next man up." Don't give it up once you get it. Ryan [Grigson] gave him an opportunity to reclaim a career, and he's making the best of it. We love him." Note the Wally Pipp reference. Translation: Injured players can lose their jobs. Dunlevy: Luck and Colts, Actually Good?

At 6-3, the Colts aren't as bad as we expected. Still, Nate Dunlevy writes, whether they're a good team or not doesn't matter: they'll be making the playoffs this year. For further proof, ask the rest of the AFC. Remember Miami, a wildcard team two weeks ago? With losses to the Colts and Titans, they're now 4-5, and almost guaranteed an extended off-season. ...

Kuharsky: Powers on IR for 3rd Consecutive Year

Colts Authority Daily Links 11-12-12 Yes, the news broke earlier today.  Paul Kuharsky of ESPN.com has a quick write-up on Jerraud Powers' latest season-ending injury.  I find Powers to be one of the most thoughtful guys in the division, so I will selfishly miss being able to look for him in the Colts locker room when I cover them. His rookie contract is also expiring...

Bill Belichick on Andrew Luck: “He’s been impressive”

Bill Belichick must be feeling a little deja vu going on right now as the New England Patriots face the 6-3 Indianapolis Colts this Sunday. For years Belichick watched the Colts under Peyton Manning, but with Manning’s departure, a new king has arisen. Andrew Luck was supposed to be good, just not this early. His poise, ability to read defenses, and his athletic ability are all...

PNC Sounds of the Game: Colts.com's Dramatic Video Recap of this Week's Win

Colts Authority Daily Links, 11-12-12 Okay, if you haven't watched the PNC Sounds of the Game series on Colts.com, you, my friend, are missing out.  The Colts have chosen to publish these with nice, clear video quality.  They're very well-done and fun to watch.  While it's not exactly news that Indy shellacked the Jaguars, this video is likely more enjoyable than...

Kuharsky: Colts Fans Should Root For Houston

Last night, along with most Colts fans who realize that they might catch Houston this year, I was hoping for a Chicago victory. The Bears did prove that one needs at least some semblance of an offense to win a game, but their loss meant that, at 8-1, Houston is probably uncatchable. Paul Kuharsky goes a step further by saying we should actually be cheering for Houston, for a simple...

Colts activate NT Chapman

The Indianapolis Colts announced several roster moves Monday, including activating nose tackle Josh Chapman from the reserve/non-football injury list. Indianapolis also promoted tight end Kyle Miller from the practice squad and placed defensive tackle Drake Nevis and cornerback Jerraud Powers on injured reserve.

Colts activate rookie nose tackle Chapman

Heading into Sunday's highly anticipated road game with the New England Patriots, the Indianapolis Colts announced some major roster moves Monday afternoon. The Colts activated rookie nose tackle Josh Chapman off the team's reserve/non-football injury list and added him to the team's 53-player regular-season roster. Chapman is a 6-foot, 316-pound defensive lineman who...

Colts Monday Musings: Playoffs? Playoffs?! We're talking about Playoffs, Man

With their 27-10 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Indianapolis Colts transformed an off-season punchline into a very real possibility. At 6-3, the Colts find themselves holding down the 5th AFC playoff seed (1st wild card spot) with a 2-game lead over the teams in 7th place (San Diego, Cincinnati and Miami are all tied at 4-5, Tennessee is sitting at 4-6). The more remarkable...

Arians leading Colts to surprising success

(Eds: Updates. With AP Photos.) By MICHAEL MAROT AP Sports Writer Chuck Pagano and Andrew Luck are getting all the national attention. Talk to anyone in the Colts locker room, and they'll tell you interim coach Bruce Arians is a major part in Indianapolis' stunning turnaround, too. Maybe the biggest contributor of all. ''I call him the MVP of our team because he...

Colts Underrated?

Before the season started both Nate and I gave Greg Cowan a hard time about his rather optimistic prediction on the 2012 campaign. Greg had jokingly predicted the playoffs, doing his best Jim Mora voice and we blew it off as another crazy Canadian rampage, fueled by fatback and Tim Horton's coffee.  Who's laughing now? After a complete drubbing of the Jaguars the Colts...

Colts raise $$$ for leukemia research

The Indianapolis Colts used some down time Saturday night to support coach Chuck Pagano and raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Indiana. Just days after nearly three dozen players, including rookie quarterback Andrew Luck, shaved their heads to support Pagano in his battle against a form of leukemia, coach Bruce Arians, other team employees and some players showed...
