Colts DE Genard Avery (knee) out for season
Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

Indianapolis Colts defensive end Genard Avery will miss the 2023 season with a knee injury, multiple outlets reported Friday.

Avery needs surgery for an LCL/meniscus injury sustained during Wednesday's joint practice with the Chicago Bears, per the reports.

The Colts signed Avery, 28, to a one-year deal in June and he was listed as a third-string defensive end on the club's official depth chart.

Avery recorded five tackles and one sack in nine games with Tampa Bay last season. He has 106 tackles, 29 quarterback hits and 8.5 sacks in 62 career games (17 starts) with the Cleveland Browns (2018-19), Philadelphia Eagles (2019-21) and Buccaneers. Cleveland drafted him in the fifth round in 2018.

Avery is the second Colts player to be placed on injured reserve this week. Wide receiver and special teams standout Ashton Dulin sustained a torn ACL in practice on Wednesday.
