In the spirit of a late dinner, the heaping helping for a final blog post is the obvious: the Colts announced late today they have waived/injured OT Tony Ugoh and claimed Fishers, Ind., native OT Joe Reitz off waivers from Miami.
This signifies a much-anticipated admission of a draft miss on Ugoh, a second-round bust who never lived up to his pick. And as everyone who follows this team closely realizes, it is a costly whiff. The Colts parted with a 2008 first-round pick to move up and select Ugoh in 2007.
He never could take the place of retired Pro Bowl OT Tarik Glenn. Ugoh got hurt as a rookie and didn't impress much when he played. He lost the LT job last preseason to Charlie Johnson. The Colts tried to put Ugoh at LG to start this training camp, but he was forced to play LT when Johnson hurt his right foot in early August. Then Ugoh hurt a toe on his left foot in a preseason game at Green Bay.
There's no way to know how serious the toe injury is, but it's safe to ...
