Nate Dunlevy discusses the awful truth about Colts wide receiver Austin Collie following the horrible news he suffered a concussion in the second week of the 2012 preseason:

Collie is a young man with a young wife and young family. Playing football has been his dream. Only he and his wife can make the decision as to what is right for them.

But I am selfish.

I want to tell him to shelve the dream. I want to tell him to please not come back. I want him to retire.

It's not my right as a fan to do that, of course, but it feels like it should be.

Nate isn't alone in this assessment. While football brings us all great pleasure it should never come at the expense of a player's health. Collie has all the potential to be a legendary Colts wideout but even more potential outside of football. All players can offer the world so much more than their bodies. It's time we and the league recognize that truth and start making good decisions.
