The Indianapolis Colts told Dwight Freeney on Friday that they don’t plan on re-signing him and they’ll let him leave in free agency. Colts owner Jim Irsay also stated that Freeney will one day be placed in the Colts’ ring of honor. “Few people have meant as much to the success of the Indianapolis Colts as Dwight Freeney,” said Irsay, per Colts.com.  “He has been a dominant player, which is all the more impressive considering his size for his position, and he has won a lot of games for this franchise.  Dwight was an artist, a joy to watch, and the dedication he put toward his craft was a rare quality.  We will miss him, but look forward to his future induction into the Hall of Fame and Colts Ring of Honor.” I think there’s a good chance Freeney will sign with a team that runs a 4-3 defense, so he can get back to playing defensive end. Freeney has 258 tackles and 107.5 during his 10 year NFL career so far.   Need NFL Tickets? var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = documen...

Should the Broncos go after Dwight Freeney?

The Indianapolis Colts informed Dwight Freeney today that they will not re-sign him, and thus, he is free to sign with whoever he wants. The Broncos have a lot of money tied up in the younger Dumervil (29)(Freeney is 33), and not much on the other side of the line, where Freeney plays. Sure, the Broncos have Wolfe, but he’s better inside. Robert Ayers plays Freeney’s position...

Dwight Freeney's post-Indianapolis options limited

With the announcement that Dwight Freeney won't be re-signed by the Indianapolis Colts, the veteran defensive end will be heading into free agency for the first time. With just 12 tackles and five sacks last season, Freeney may have a difficult time finding work with agreeable pay. For Freeney, playing in a 4-3 defense is essential. He didn't fit in the Colts' new...

Indianapolis Colts Release Dwight Freeney

The all time sack leader in Colts history will no longer be with the team.  Sports Illustrated is reporting that the Colts have released defensive end Dwight Freeney, and won’t be resigning him. The 33-year-old Freeney played 10 season in Indianapolis, where he accrued 107.5 sacks in that time span.  I’m sure there will be a line of suitors looking for a capable pass rusher...

Atlanta A Potential Landing Spot For DE Dwight Freeney?

Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com writes that DE Dwight Freeney could be an option for the Atlanta Falcons. Yasinskas adds that Freeney isn’t a “long-term answer,” but he could provide some much needed help opposite of John Abraham next season. The Colts informed Freeney that they have no intentions of bringing him back next season, so he will be free to sign with a new team as of...

Dwight Freeney wasn’t just a game changer. He changed the game…for me.

Colts Linebacker Dwight Freeney(Photo: Indy Star) Goodbye, old friend. There are certain players you have a kinship with. You feel like you know them, like you have a history with them, like you’ve been through some stuff with them…even if you’ve never met them. Dwight Freeney is one of those players for me. Dwight Freeney has been a member of the Indianapolis Colts for as...

End of an era – Colts part ways with Dwight Freeney

The Indianapolis Colts today informed Dwight Freeney that his contract would not be renewed. Freeney was an unrestricted free agent, and the Colts have opted to not re-up with the prolific pass rasher for 2013. That means he will be free to roam the open market for a 4-3 defense of his liking. Freeney, 32, [...]The post End of an era – Colts part ways with Dwight Freeney appeared...

Colts release Austin Collie, won’t re-sign Dwight Freeney

According to Bob Kravitz of the Indy Star, the Colts have released wide receiver Austin Collie and have informed defensive end/linebacker Dwight Freeney that they won’t be re-signing him. Freeney simply wasn’t a good fit in the Colts 3-4 defense.  He needs to go back to playing in a 4-3 as a defensive end. Collie on the other hand could never stay healthy.  He is a heck of...

Colts release Dwight Freeney, Austin Collie

The Indianapolis Colts have released linebacker Dwight Freeney and wide receiver Austin Collie, the team has announced. While Freeney said earlier this offseason he hoped to re-sign with the Colts, his release was expected following a disappointing year. Indianapolis switched to a 3-4 defensive scheme, and Freeney did not handle the transition to linebacker well. Over 14 games...

With two possible future Hall of Fame players (Dwight Freeney & Charles Woodson) being released from their teams, the mock may change just a bit.  After what I expect to be a poor performance at the NFL Draft Combine, Manti Te’o will drop out of the 1st round.
