**Leading up to the start of training camp, Everything-Colts will be giving you breakdowns and ratings on each position group, making you more knowledgeable about the entire Colts team.**

Today's entry is about the linebackers.

The transition to the 3-4 is not an easy one, but this group is filled with young stars and solid vets.

The position that has changed the most has to be the linebacker spot. You have 2 linebackers moving inside (instead of being spread out), and you have 2 players, who have never stood out, becoming stand up outside linebackers. This is going to be different. The positions are currently filled by Pat Angerer, Kavell Conner as inside linebackers, with Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis as outside linebackers. Jerry Hughes and Tim Fugger are expected to be backups for Freeney and Mathis, with the inside linebacker backup spots being wide open.

Let's start with our inside linebackers: Pat Angerer and Kavell Conner. Angerer had a great season last year, in his first season as a starter, and second in the league. He had 148 tackles, which is good for 4th in the league. Although teams ran a lot against the Colts (70% of the opposing teams plays were running plays), having the 4th amount of tackles in the league is still very impressive. He also had an interception, and seem to have gotten better in the dreaded Tampa 2. He is slowly improving and he's only 25. The sky is the limit for Pat Angerer.

Then there's Kavell Conner. Conner had the most tackles for losses in the NFL. That's a very impressive stat, and showed that his instincts are top notch. Conner has great "downhill" speed and is a good tackler. He's also 25 years old, which is very scary, because he will only get better and better just like Angerer. Those 2 will be great together for a long time.
