Colts’ Tyler Goodson gets brutally honest on season-ending drop vs. Texans

Indianapolis Colts running back Tyler Goodson just became a much more notable name in Week 18. Unfortunately for the 23-year-old running back, it’s not for a good reason.

The Colts lost to the Houston Texans in a Saturday showdown that featured a playoff berth on the line. The final score was 23-17 after a failed late drive from Indianapolis. Goodson was the first read on the final play, a controversial decision from the Indy coaching staff.

The play the Colts ran to get the critical conversion got Goodson wide open coming out of the backfield. A completion would have kept the drive alive and would have probably gotten Indy inside the 10-yard line. Gardner Minshew threw it behind him on what should have been an easy gain. It was low enough and behind enough to make Goodson twist around for it but still on target enough to hit Goodson’s hands.

Goodson was dejected after the game. His inability to make the very tough play was a lot to process given that the Colts’ season ended on that failed drive.

“I work too hard to just drop the ball like that,” Tyler Goodson said. Even after it was acknowledged that the throw was hard, the Colts’ running back still admitted that it hit his hands. For as brutal of an ending as the game was, Goodson’s presser was a spectacular display of professionalism and dedication to his team and to his craft.

The Colts even being in this position is impressive in their first season under rookie head coach Shane Steichen. The Texans ended up being the surprise playoff team this time after another stellar outing from rookie phenom C.J. Stroud.
