Long-time Denver sports columnist Woody Paige thinks backup quarterback Brett Rypien gives the Broncos the best chance for victory this Sunday against the Jets.

"Rypien is the best option because Wilson, is injured, in doubt, inconsistent, indecisive and indeed in need of a week off," Paige wrote.
Paige's point is valid. Wilson hasn't shown his nine-time Pro Bowl form in Denver. Through six games, he's posting a career-low 83.4 passer rating, completing 58.6 percent of his passes. Each mark is below the league average.
Wilson's injured hamstring doesn't help. According to Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett, Wilson was limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday, shortening his preparation time.
Per longtime Broncos reporter Mike Klis, Rypien took the majority of reps.

"Wilson deserves a break. So do the players and the millions of Broncos believers," Paige wrote.
Rypien's lone career start was a victory against the Jets two years ago, as they finished 2-14 that season. In 2022, a defense ranking No.9 in the league drives the 3-2 Jets
Perhaps their strong defense, along with Rypien's inexperience, is why Hackett's weary in naming him as Sunday's starter. However the Broncos' offense ranks last in scoring, what do they have to lose?
"Ride with Rypien. Back it, Hackett," Paige wrote.
