Commanders Fall on Fumble in End Zone vs. Eagles
Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Commanders aren't going to make things smooth for the Philadelphia Eagles or their fans watching from home.

After trading touchdown drives in the first quarter, the Commanders started the second quarter with a chance to retake the lead ... which they did on a 7-play, 75-yard drive that ended in a chaotic fall on the ball in the end zone from offensive lineman Saahdiq Charles.

Here's a look at the play ...

Running back Brian Robinson Jr. beat a couple of tackles on his goal line carry but had the ball cough up right as he was about to break the end zone plane. However, Charles fell on the ball to secure the touchdown for the Commanders.

It's been a long road for Charles, who is in his fourth season with Washington after being drafted in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. His career in the NFL so far has been highlighted by injuries, but he's been given an opportunity to contribute as a starter this season and he's making the most of it.

"We always know Saahdiq had the skillset to do it," coach Ron Rivera said this offseason. "He's gotta stay healthy. That's probably the biggest thing right now for him. I mean that always seemed to be the issue. If you go back and look at the times he's played, um, something has come up whether it's been the calf, it's been the ankle, the shoulder. You just hope that he stays healthy because he has the skillset.”

The Commanders hold a 14-7 lead against the Eagles midway through the second quarter.
