Some Tuesday Notes from OTAs.

- Seems like backup quarterback John Beck could possibly be putting himself in position to make the team. Beck has made it clear he is all ears with head coach Gary Kubiak and what he has to say to him about playing quarterback. Beck being familiar with the Texans’ offense, is helping the younger players on the field with the offense. His role is yet undetermined by the team, and looks to be in a battle with rookie quarterback Case Keenum for the teams 3rd quarterback spot.

- Kevin Walter did not practice today he was sick and Johnathan Joseph left practice early to be with his wife.

- DeVier Posey is being moved around in the Texans offense to see how much he can absorb before OTAs is out. Kubiak is determining reps for the rookies depending on how they perform during OTAs.

- Kubiak continued his praise of second year wide receiver Lestar Jean stating he likes the way Jean is working and thinks he has a good chance to be a good football player for the Texans.

- Inside linebacker, Brian Cushing will be shutdown for the remainder of OTAs after his keen became sore. A MRI revealed no damage, so the team is using this time to get other players some reps.

- Today on Houston Sports 790, it was said that Brian Cushing will be switching to former starter DeMeco Ryans inside linebacker position while Bradie James will be taking over in Cushing’s linebacker position in 2012.

- Arian Foster and Ben Tate seem to have a competitive relationship, and are pushing each other on the field to make each other better. Tate says he likes the way Foster is patient when he runs the football, and wants to bring that to his game this season.

- Brandon Brooks  and Derek Newton continue to impress and appear to be putting themselves into position to push for a starting role entering training camp. Antoine Caldwell and Rashad Butler are penciled in as the current starters.

Texans Head Coach Gary Kubiak reportedly frustrated with rookie DeVier Posey

When the Texans drafted DeVier Posey in the 3rd round despite work ethic and character concerns, it was a surprise pick. Posey has all the physical talent, but has never lived up to it on the field and has had some off the field issues. He was also underwhelming in the Senior Bowl, frustrating coaches in practice. It appears Posey is not done frustrating coaches as his new Head Coach...

Ward tweets that Texans won't re-sign him

It seems Derrick Ward's time with the Houston Texans is over, a fact he virtually confirmed on Twitter Monday. "Was just told I didnt get resigned because I don't play special teams? Humm check 2004-2007 stats special teams demon. Oh well. #Next Up," Ward wrote on his Twitter account. Ward, a running back, seemed expendable when the Texans signed Justin Forsett...

J.J. Watt Says Texans Don’t Have A Weakness

J.J. Watt had an impressive rookie outing as a defensive end for the Houston Texans last season, starting all 16 games and making returning an interception for a touchdown in their playoff win against the Cincinnati Bengals. According to Watt, the Texans are just tipping the iceberg in terms of what they’re capable of: “Last year wasn’t a fluke. We didn’t make the playoffs...

Former Texan Derrick Ward to retire?

Derrick Ward was the Texans’ 3rd string running back behind Arian Foster and Ben Tate last season, but the Texans signed Justin Forsett to play in that role for this season after Ward averaged just 3.4 YPC last year. Ward is still without a job and turns 32 in August. Ward tweeted that he’s going to “take some time off now & c what I want 2 do.” That sounds like code...

Brian Cushing was held out of practice

Getty Images According to Nick Scurfield of HoustonTexans.com, starting linebacker Brian Cushing was held out of practice on Monday due to a sore knee.  Head coach Gary Kubiak said that it’s nothing to be concerned about. At this point it’s not worth if for a player like Cushing to push things during OTA’s, it’s better to hold him out and make sure he gets healthy.  Hopefully...
