The Majors Detroit:
Former Boise State QB Kellen Moore was the winningest quarterback in the NCAA and ended up going undrafted in this past April’s NFL Draft. Despite that Moore almost immediately signed on with the Detroit Lions to fill a role as third string QB when Drew Stanton left last offseason to sign a contract with the New York Jets.
However after a series of OTA’s in which Moore was unimpressive to say the least, the Lions went out and signed some competition for Moore in Arena League passer R.J. Archer.
Archer played college football with William & Mary before going undrafted in 201o. Archer spent time with the Minnesota Vikings in 2010 before joining the Georgia Force of the Arena League.
Moore though definitely has the advantage heading into camp based off his overall talent and track record in college.

So much of understanding certain football personnel moves these days, like life, is about finding infinite details which tie everything together.
Take Friday, when the Detroit Lions placed a waiver claim on Jacksonville Jaguars' cornerback Dontrell Johnson and were awarded his rights. The news probably didn't even make a ripple with fans or in NFL circles, but it'...
The Lions could line up for their opening game against St. Louis on Sept. 9 with 21 of the 22 starters on offense and defense from last season.
Whos going to be that one replacement?
Based on offseason workouts, it appears to be third-year player Aaron Berry, taking over at right cornerback for Eric Wright, who signed as a free agent with Tampa Bay.
Berry received first-team reps...
In 2011, The Detroit Lions over came being the laughing stock of the NFL and became one of the league’s hottest offences and had a defense that brought the bad boys name back to the Motor City. Detroit finally had a healthy Matthew Stafford, and he didn’t disappoint. Throwing a mind-blowing 5,038 yards and 41 touchdowns and to me..." Stafford is in the top five quarterbacks...
The Detroit Lions are a young team and they still have some building to do before they make in back into the playoffs. While they are a strong contender, I do expect them to fall short of the playoffs in 2012. Here are three reasons why they are going to be on the outside looking in this year.
The NFC North has to be by far the toughest division to play in. The Packers...
When Ndamukong Suh hit the scene in his 2010 rookie season, he posted ten sacks and looked very much like the player he was drafted to be. He was the savior of the Detroit Lions defensive line, and ushered in a winning attitude in the Motor City.
Fast forward to last season. Suh only had four sacks, and was talked about more for his questionable behavior on and off the field rather...
Anyone who follows the Detroit Lions closely knows that Nate Burelson isn't exactly media shy. Many might not have guessed he was media savvy enough to earn the opportunity to become a future broadcasting superstar, however.
Recently, Burelson completed the NFL's broadcast boot camp in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey where he and Denver Broncos tight end Joel Dreesen spent time...
Are the Lions gently easing jack-of-all-trades return ace Stefan Logan out of the picture? It's difficult not to think that when you see the moves the Lions made in the offseason and notice that Logan has worked exclusively with the running backs this offseason.
There are still several weeks to go until the Lions need to cut their roster down to its regular-season max of 53 players. Continue reading →
Tom Kowalski has posthumously won the 2012 Dick McCann Award for his contributions to pro football though his coverage of the Detroit Lions for 32 years.
The Professional Football Writers of America gave the award to the former Detroit Lions beat writer who died in August at age 51. He covered the Lions in parts of five decades, beginning at the Oakland Press in 1978 before moving...
These are the most up-to-date mock draft results from a fantasy football mock draft that I participated in on June 22nd, 2012. Players are starting to even out in their ranks as we gear up for fantasy football, and it is interesting to note the early risers like Trent Richardson of the Cleveland Browns, and the guys whose value is dropping like Michael Vick (Who I was...
Sometimes we forget that football is more than just a game. It is an entire entertainment industry.
While many fans look back with pride at the contributions that certain athletes have made to emotionally gripping moments on the field, few remember that the work on the side line contributes just as much.
Perhaps even more.
The Detroit Lions have for years been a franchise associated...
