Found January 23, 2012 on Cleveland Frowns:
The Niners were 0 for 12 on third down yesterday (technically 1 for 13, but the one conversion came on a meaningless short throw on the last play of regulation). Their wide receivers made one catch for three yards on nine targets. On any of their last four drives a field goal would have sent them to the Super Bowl, yet they moved the ball a total of -7, 0, 2 and 9 yards respectively on each. This, despite the services of a pair of running backs who ran for over 100 yards on just 20 carries and the best pass-catching tight end in football. Niners wideout Michael Crabtree was one of the best receivers to play college football in the last decade. He can’t be that bad now in the NFL. It’s something for the (thankfully) dwindling “surround Colt McCoy with weapons” crowd to think about. Niners quarterback Alex Smith still came away with a decent statline (a 97.6 rating on 12/26 passing for 196 yards and 2 touchdowns, evocative of Colt’s best performances (like against the Rams, or Jags)) ...

The Remote Report: The Cleveland Browns Defense (A Report Card)

The regular season is over, which traditionally means that nothing really matters for the Cleveland Browns until April. It’s a time of reflection, as well as watching competent teams that make us jealous. I’m not a teacher, so my report card doesn’t get marked up with grades based on how the Browns performed this season. If it did, I would be the teacher of a very strange...

Browns Hire Defensive Backs Coach Tim Hauck

Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal was first to report that the Cleveland Browns have hired Tim Hauck as their defensive backs coach.  The Browns were left without a DB coach when Jerome Henderson bolted for Dallas a couple weeks ago.  Henderson was one of the few Mangini assistants to be retained after Shurmur was brought on as head coach. Hauck is a former NFL player and...

Browns hire new secondary coach

The Cleveland Browns have hired Tim Hauck to coach their defensive backs. Hauck served as Tennessee's secondary coach the past two seasons. He's replacing Jerome Henderson, who left Cleveland earlier this month after three seasons to coach Dallas' defensive backs. Hauck played 13 seasons in the NFL with New England, Green Bay, Denver, Seattle, Indianapolis, Philadelphia...

Why Waiting for the Browns Offensive Coordinator isn’t Such a Bad Thing

To say the Browns are going slowly in their search for an offensive coordinator is an understatement.  Really, compared to what I hoped for when Shurmur was hired, the Browns are a about a year late already.  I digress. Even if the Browns didn’t get it right the first time around, I don’t mind this process taking a long time now because it means the Browns are searching for...

Mike Sherman should be Browns' offensive coordinator - Comment of the Day

"Sherman can develop the WC Offense here and bring along a young QB. If Shurmur doesn't grow into the head coaching job in the next year or two, Sherman can be elevated to head coach and Cromwell can take over as OC." - jdunne

Browns should fill holes with draft picks and not trade up for one player - Comment of the Day

"Did Atlanta make the Superbowl this year? I must have missed Oakland making the Superbowl, oh wait, they didn't even make the playoffs. You can't sell all your draft picks and magically make it to the Superbowl. The Steelers, Ravens, and Patriots are always picking at the bottom of the 1st round and they seem to be pretty good. Phil Taylor had an excellent season for...

NFL Playoffs Teach Us that Building Teams is Hard Work

Every week of the Browns season we do the (sometimes comical) “Browns will win if…” articles here on WFNY.  Usually it was something about Peyton Hillis being healthy, Colt McCoy finding some rhythm with his receivers, Phil Taylor and Ahtyba Rubin stopping the run, or Phil Dawson hitting eleventeen field goals as the keys to victory.  It was always interesting to see how...

Send it to our tips email at With the 4th Pick, Mel Kiper says Browns take Robert Griffin III: “If a team moves ahead of the Browns for Griffin, they also could be in play for Blackmon, or even the...
