The New York Giants have already exceeded the expectations that had been projected for them by many so called experts and analysts around the sport. With the loss of key free agents during this offseason, reports of the team’s demise were premature, as the Giants now have seized a firm control of first place heading into the brutal second half of the season. Early on, the organization was decimated by injuries, but now as the team returns to full strength, those same people who forecasted a rebuilding year for Big Blue are currently ready to crown them Super Bowl contenders. Now I can understand how Eli Manning has captured the hearts of even the most pessimistic of fans, but before we start predicting a bright future, let’s take a vivid look at the very grim past. The 2009 Giant season started off as promising as any before it, as New York dominated teams early on, and jumped out to a 5-0 record. After punishing Jamarcus Russell and the Oakland Raiders in Week 5 with a final score 44-7, the Giants proclaimed they were the team to beat in the NFC.
