Bengals DT Geno Atkins‘ agent recently spoke with the team at the Senior Bowl regarding a contract extension for his client. Atkins’ agent characterized the talks as a ”brief, casual“ encounter. “We had some dialogue down here,” said agent Pat Dye, per Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “Both sides would like to get something sooner rather than later. It’s just a matter of sitting down and getting it done in a way that satisfies both sides.” Atkins, 24, will be attending his second Pro Bowl in his brief NFL career and is in a great position to receive a long-term contract extension from the Bengals. He has quickly become one of the best interior defensive lineman in the game and was rated as the No. 1 defensive tackle in the league by Pro Football Focus this season.  He’ll be entering the final year of his rookie contract next season, so there’s at least a reasonable chance that he could secure a deal that would come close to averaging $12 million per season.
