Today the Bengals moved to assure depth along the offensive line in the wake of their short rental of place kicker Josh Brown.  In case you missed it, Brown was signed earlier in the week to kick for Mike Nugent for one or two games after Nugent tweaked his calf muscle on his kicking leg in practice.  To make room for Brown, the Bengals had released Center Jeff Faine. Faine had been signed early this year as a response to Cook’s preseason ankle injury.  After starting the first six games of the season, Faine had been benched in favor of suprising rookie Trevor Robinson.  Robinson, the undrafted free agent from Notre Dame, has been playing exceptionally well of late, and has gelled with the starting group.  With Cook back and successfully completing a full week of practice, removing Faine for Brown was the logical move.  However, the Bengals still needed to make another roster move in order to get Cook active, and they did so today by releasing WR Armon Binns.  Binns had begun the season sharing the #2 receiver role with Brandon Tate, and had started 5 games, but he had recently been inactive the last few weeks.  His role dimished significantly after an injury and the light bulb turning on for rookies Mohamed Sanu and Marvin Jones. The Bengals are now down to just 5 healthy receivers:  A.J. Green, Marvin Jones, Andrew Hawkins, Brandon Tate, and Ryan Whalen.  Meanwhile, indications are the team will stick with Robinson at center, with Cook playing a reserve role for now. As for Binns, assuming he clears waivers he may be back once Nugent is ready to resume his role as place kicker.  The team will also likely make another roster move when RB Cedric Peerman returns from his own injury, allowing the team to send Boom Herron back to the practice squad.
