According to multiple reports, there is a significant chance that come March, Ravens safety Ed Reed will end his time in Baltimore and become a free agent. While it is unlikely that at the age of 34 many teams would be willing to offer him enough money to lure him away from the team he has spent his entire career with, ESPN’s Adam Schefter and SI.com’s Peter King both reported that the Patriots would likely be the only team with both the finances and stability to sign him.
Of course, there may be some bad blood between Reed and the Patriots after this year’s AFC Championship, during which Reed was the “victim” of Tom Brady’s slide that led to a $10,000 fine. The two have talked since the incident and Reed claims not to harbor any bad feelings towards Brady.
If Reed does decide to join the Patriots next season, he would vastly improve a young secondary that desperately needs a veteran presence at the safety position. The mid-season acquisition of Aqib Talib was a big step forwards...
