Cowboys' Brian Schottenheimer wants outsiders to do this with offensive stats

ESPN stats show that the Dallas Cowboys enter Week 9 of the 2025 NFL season ranked second in the league with 384.1 offensive yards gained per game and 30.8 points scored per contest. Nevertheless, Dallas fell to 3-4-1 on the campaign via a 44-24 blowout loss at the Denver Broncos this past Sunday.

While speaking with reporters on Wednesday, first-year Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer told outsiders what they can do with their comments about how well his offense has played since Week 1.

Where Brian Schottenheimer wants people to place comments about Cowboys' offensive stats

"None of us have done good enough," Schottenheimer said, per Nick Shook of the NFL's website. "Coaches, players, head coach, none of us have done good enough. That's real. Our scorecard is what it is. That's not just defensively, that's offensively. We're a football team that's 3-4-1. You can take the stats on offense and shove 'em up your a-- as far as I'm concerned."

The Cowboys' defense routinely betrayed the team's offense over the club's first eight games. According to ESPN, Dallas began Thursday ranked 31st in the NFL in yards allowed per contest (404.6) and 31st in points surrendered per game (31.3).

Recent stories have linked the Cowboys with pass-rushers and linebackers who could be made available before the Nov. 4 trade deadline. However, some think Dallas could become a seller if the club suffers a home loss to the Arizona Cardinals (2-5) this coming Monday night.

What Cowboys QB Dak Prescott wants instead of individual honors

Per Pro Football Reference, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott ended Week 8 leading the NFL among qualified players with a 79.5 adjusted QBR. He's also ranked third with 2,069 passing yards and tied for third with 16 passing touchdowns.

That said, Prescott likely won't become a legitimate MVP candidate unless the Cowboys remain part of playoff conversations through late December.

"Dak Prescott doesn't want to win MVP," Schottenheimer insisted on Wednesday. "He wants to win a Super Bowl. That's what we want to win. We're not there yet. We've not played that consistently, well enough to certainly be in that discussion, but that doesn't mean the journey stops. It certainly doesn't stop. You get more focused, you get more intentional, and we've got to do it together."

As of Thursday morning, ESPN BET had the Cowboys as 2.5-point home favorites over the Cardinals. That could prove to be a must-win game for Dallas as it pertains to the club possibly bolstering its defense ahead of the trade deadline.
