Fox Sports Southwest:
IRVING, Texas -- New York Jets coach Rex Ryan revealed in February that his twin brother, Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, would be having Lap-Band surgery during the offseason.
The procedure, which places a gastric band around the top of the stomach, is designed to reduce the amount of food an obese person consumes, which then improves weight loss.
Rob Ryan talked about the procedure Friday at the Cowboys' Valley Ranch practice facility.
"Obviously, I have had the procedure," he said. "I'm down 35 pounds already, so that's a good thing. It's only been a couple months, so Dr. Smith's been real happy with me.
"Hell, I'll keep working."
Rob Ryan was then asked why he went through with the operation.
"Well, breathing at night, my wife and I are looking for the long haul here," he explained. "I did it for health, not for beauty."
As usual, the Cowboys defensive coordinator was cracking jokes.
When one reporter responded that Cowboys running backs coach Skip Peete, who has also lost a significant amount of weight since last season, appears to have lost more weight, Rob Ryan responded, "Yeah, but he had further to go than I did."
Peete did not have the Lap-Band surgery.

IRVING, Texas The Dallas Cowboys' players are seeing a lot less of defensive coordinator Rob Ryan these days. He's lost 35 pounds after having lap band surgery.
They're also going to see a lot more of Ryan, as in coaching the rookie camps and mini camps the Cowboys missed out on last season because of the labor dispute.
Both factors should result in both Ryan and the...
Rob Ryan has become known for the confidence he expresses in his Cowboys, and it looks like things will be no different this year.
Florham Park, N.J. - Over the past three years we've heard Rex Ryan continually preach about, "playing like a Jet" and what that means to him and should mean to Jets fans. It was a tactical move as part of Ryan's desire to change the culture of the Jets. Skeptics throughout the national football media may have their doubts about whether or not Ryan has been successful...
Even though his dad, Buddy Ryan, allegedly used bounties for his players as a coach with the Bears and Eagles in the 1980′s, Rob Ryan says he doesn’t want any part of bounty systems that made the New Orleans Saints the most-discussed NFL team this offseason.
“We always teach properly,” the Cowboys defensive coordinator said, according to the San Antonio Express-News. “I...
Quinton Coples had just finished his first practice with the New York Jets when he walked to the sideline while everyone else headed toward the locker room.
The first-round draft pick strolled over to the man waiting for him and shook his hand and smiled. It was new team president Neil Glat.
Good move, kid. Talk about a good first impression. And he wasn't too bad on the field...
Not surprisingly, Jets coach Rex Ryan didn't agree with the mediocre draft grades pundits from regional and national media assigned the franchise in the days immediately following the three-day event. According to Ryan, everyone seemed to forget a certain fourth-round pick. "Everybody put everybody (in the AFC East) ahead of us, which I think is hilarious, but I think...
Weeks before selecting Demario Davis in the third-round of April's NFL Draft, New York Jets coach Rex Ryan saw a hint of a future Hall of Famer in the unheralded prospect from Arkansas State. Wow. ... This is amazing. He reminds me of Ray (Lewis)," Ryan said, according the The Star-Ledger, after meeting with Davis and general manager Mike Tannenbaum at the Jets' team...
The New York Jets are making some bold moves this offseason, and it carried over to the draft. The rolled the dice early and often with this draft class, and it could pay of big way… or it could cost Mike Tannenbaum and Rex Ryan their jobs.
Quinton Coples was a bold choice in the 1st round, especially considering some of the impact players still on the board. While Coples has a...
I began the day with my ear to the NFL wall as usual.
It’s been tough trying to find anything worthy of blogging about related to the NFL since the draft (yeah, it’s only been 1 week and I’m having withdrawls).
There was the tragic news that broke surrounding Junior Seau. I got up about two lines, and that’s all I could really muster before handing it over to a TMZ link...

You better believe this is going to be a roller coaster season for the Jets. There’s no way that Rex Ryan and co. can manage a peaceful situation under the current circumstance. Fans are already inclined to push for Tebow… Just wait.

New offensive coordinator Tony Sparano wasnt overly concerned about managing what will undoubtedly be the most scrutinized quarterback situation in the NFL. So, could Tebow actually play as many as 20 snaps in a game as Rex Ryan suggested earlier this offseason? I wont give you the vision on what I think his role will be in the offense, Sparano said. I would just say that
Unlike Kurt Warner, Rex Ryan said he is glad that his son plays high school football despite the fact that he has suffered a concussion before while playing.
