Mysteries around the Cowboys' practice facility usually concern trying to decode an opponent's tendencies. This week there's something more serious going on regarding the health of fullback Tony Fiammetta. Head coach Jason Garrett gave cryptic answers when asked about Fiammetta's status this week. Some of them were purposely evasive, but others seemed to indicate honest frustration at not being able to diagnose the illness that kept him out of last week's game against the Redskins. Garrett said Fiammetta feels "nauseous and sick" whenever he works out. Nausea can be a symptom of a concussion, but NFL trainers and doctors are normally adept at catching the signs of head trauma. The Cowboys are looking at possibilities beyond a football injury, or as Garrett said "the origin of the illness." Garrett did not want to give details, but he did mention the team was looking into "whether it's some illnesses in his family." When asked if Fiammetta could be contagious, Garrett said no. He also said Fiammetta was not being kept away from the team. Fiammetta was held out of practice Monday and Tuesday and likely will not play Thursday against the Dolphins.

Decoding Garrett: 3rd Down Efficiency and Missing Fiammetta

The Cowboys won a game Sunday that is tough to fully explain from a statistical standpoint. From a production perspective, they accumulated their 2nd worst yardage day of the year with 354 yards. Only the blowout loss in Philadelphia saw fewer yards (266), while only the loss to Detroit saw more snaps (75). 73 offensive plays and barely 350 yards makes for a very poor 4.84 yards...

Fiammetta Remains A Question Mark With Illness

Fullback Tony Fiammetta remains a question mark this week, with an undisclosed illness that kept him out of practice all of last week and on the sidelines for the Cowboys’ overtime victory over Washington on Sunday. Which is to say, the mystery illness could keep him out of the Thanksgiving Day game against Miami, as well. Head coach Jason Garrett told reporters this week that...

Dallas Cowboys vs Washington Redskins Review: Offense

In the 4th quarter and OT, he was closer to "clutch" than "choker".The Cowboys did not have a great day offensively against the Redskins, but they still managed 27 points against a decent defense.More importantly, I think we witnessed something from Jason Garrett as a Head Coach that marks a pivotal change in his play calling (click here to jump to that).Passing...

Cowboys tied for division lead; new aim to keep it

By winning four of their last five games, Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys have clawed their way to a share of the lead in the NFC East. Next challenge: staying there. The Cowboys have a great chance to get comfy atop the division, but coach Jason Garrett knows it will take a better effort than his club gave Sunday in Washington. With Miami coming to town Thursday, there's...

No comparison weather-wise to Cowboys-Dolphins holiday game played 18 years ago

ARLINGTON – The opposing team is the same, but the weather is quite different. When the Cowboys lost 16-14 to the Dolphins in the  Thanksgiving Day game made memorable mainly by Leon Lett’s shocking blunder, Texas Stadium was covered with snow, a fact Jason Garrett brought up first when asked this week about his memories of the game. “I remember talking to (Dolphins quarterback...

Garrett Looking To Capitalize On Jones-Murray Combo

Felix Jones carried the ball five times in his return to the Cowboys’ lineup last Sunday, a 27-24 overtime win over the Redskins. He managed 18 yards on these carries, and another four on a pass. Meanwhile DeMarco Murray, who earned the lion’s share of the workload with 601 yards in the four games for which Jones was absent, went for 73 on 25 carries. Head coach Jason Garrett...
