Cowboys’ Jayron Kearse Bullied on Social Media following Brutal Week 15 Loss
Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Cowboys are certainly the most controversial team in the NFL.  It has almost turned into a game over the past several years that there are people who love them and then there are people who absolutely despise them.  Unfortunately for Dallas, fans have a difficult time accepting that the players are just people and have a tendency to take things just a little too far.

Cowboys’ Jayron Kearse hacked by Angry Fans after Tough Loss

That leads us to what happened this week following the devastating loss that Dallas suffered at the hands of the Buffalo Bills.  Following the game, disgruntled fans hacked into the social media accounts of Dallas safeties Jayron Kearse and Juanyeh Thomas.  After the hack, the fans leaked personal information such as the home address of Kearse and the phone number of Thomas to the internet.

The rage from fans came after the Buffalo running game completely shredded the Dallas defense in the game.  Kearse then went on social media and complained about the officiating in the game.  Apparently, a decent segment of the fanbase thought that the problem was more the effort by Kearse and not the officiating.

After the hack, Thomas stepped in to defend Kearse when fans immediately hacked both accounts and released the personal information to the internet.  Understandably, Thomas was seriously unhappy about the breach of privacy toward him and his teammate.

“I can take criticism,” said Thomas, who accepted that he missed three tackles against the Bills that would have made major impacts to the final result. “But you do cross a line when you start doing dumb stuff like that, for real. It’s a line you can’t cross when you start sharing people’s addresses and numbers and stuff. At the end of the day, this is still a game. People got a life.”

It’s a brutal world that we live in where fans can’t accept the fact that while these are professional athletes and get paid enormous sums to play the game, they are also people who shouldn’t be subject to levels of criticism above what regular people like you and I deal with on a regular basis.  Dallas fans have certainly always had a reputation of being over the top but this was a step too far.

Even after the loss, Dallas remains the number two seed in the NFC and the current leader in the NFC East after the Philadelphia Eagles laid an egg on Monday Night Football against the Seattle Seahawks.  Regardless of abuse by the fans, Dallas essentially remains in the drivers seat in the NFC for the remainder of the season as long as they perform well through their final three games of the season.
