Cowboys' Micah Parsons sends message to Jerry Jones

Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons hopes Dallas owner Jerry Jones fulfills his promise and goes all-in this offseason.

"Sitting here and they talking about, 'We're going all-in this year.' Man, that's what I would hope for," Parsons said Wednesday on his podcast "The Edge." "I hope that we go all-in. I hope that we go out and get the players that we're missing because we didn't do that this year. I hope that we challenge ourselves, become better and become greater."

During the Senior Bowl on Tuesday, Jones indicated the team will be aggressive in free agency despite a challenging cap situation. Spotrac projects that the Cowboys are $14.29M over the cap.

Dallas must make changes following an embarrassing loss to the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round. In the 48-32 defeat, the Cowboys tied for the second-most points allowed in a home playoff game in league history, per Josh Dubow of the Associated Press.

"It's that you lose the way you do and at home," Parsons said. "We had talked about how much [better] we had played at home, how much it stood for us to be at home, and then to go like that at home was completely embarrassing and unacceptable. I couldn't even look at that loss or feel any type of way because of how embarrassed I felt. It took me a while to even show my face in public. I disappeared completely."

To create more cap room, the Cowboys might have to let some players walk in free agency, including left tackle Tyron Smith and running back Tony Pollard. They also should extend or use a void year on quarterback Dak Prescott's contract to reduce his 2024 cap number ($59.45M).

These are tough calls, but Dallas wants to keep the 24-year-old happy. Parsons finished with a career-high 14 sacks in 17 games, earning his third consecutive Pro Bowl nod. He could help the Cowboys end their championship drought if they upgrade their roster. Dallas last won the Super Bowl in the 1995 season.
