Cowboys’ Promising LB Arrested on Drug, Weapon Charges
Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

The promising career of Dallas Cowboys offensive linebacker Sam Williams has taken a sudden turn for the worse. With big expectations on this young man headed into the new season, it has now been reported that the 24-year-old is in a world of trouble. This is after Williams was reportedly arrested on Sunday for drug and weapon charges.

Sam Williams Facing Legal Trouble After Frisco Police Arrest

Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that Williams was taken into custody after being found in possession of drugs and a firearm:

“Cowboys defensive end Sam Williams was arrested by Frisco police Sunday night on charges of possession of a controlled substance and unlawful carrying of a weapon, per a police department spokesperson. The controlled substance charge, for alleged possession of THC, is a low-level state felony and the unlawful carrying of a weapon is a misdemeanor, according to Frisco police,” read the report.

Hill also reports that the drug found in Williams’ possession was marijuana., which is legal in Texas for medical purposes. Recreational use of marijuana that exceeds lawful THC levels is what is considered illegal. The fact that Williams was arrested for possession of the drug only means that what he had on him was not for medicinal use.

The Cowboys, who have declined to comment on the situation, are reportedly aware of Williams’ legal encounter. In fact, the former second-round pick even joined the team in practice on Tuesday.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time Sam Williams has been involved in a legal conundrum. Last season, the Cowboys stud was cited for misdemeanor reckless driving after totaling his car in a two-vehicle accident. He was reportedly driving at 98 mph in a 55 mph zone. While he and the driver of the other car were hospitalized, neither of them suffered serious injury.

During his time with the University of Mississippi, Williams was suspended after being charged with sexual battery. It wasn’t until two months later that the talented LB was reinstated after the charges were dropped.

It goes without saying that Sam Williams has had a troublesome past that has followed him now that he’s in the NFL. He has a lot of potential in him but if he keeps on this unsavory path, it would not be surprising if he ends up ruining his own career.
